Customer Reviews

My husband and I visited Flat Rock from a recommendation. We’ve been on other tours, but this visit was more personable. We didn’t only learn about the history of the location and the families, but we also learned about the process of preserving the archive. We got a better understanding of what it takes to run and keep an archive. I also loved Cheryl and Dina’s authenticity and their explanations of future ideas. I felt more welcomed than I have on other tours and like we were just chatting with old friends.
This is an amazing tour! Our staff was engulfed by all the history of The Flat Rock Archives. The staff was amazing and prepared for our arrival. You will walk away in amazement!

The tour of the family home and the surrounding areas in Flat Rock, including the historic hidden African-American cemetery, which was given by Miss Patricia and Miss Cheryl of the Flat Rock Archives was thoughtful, informative, and carefully thought through. The project of preserving the past through oral histories, and local knowledge and artefacts serves to ensue the background traumas of enslavement are not forgotten but can also provide a future in enabling an understanding of how families responded to post Civil War times. The history of T A Bryant and his descendants helps us to understand the passing of time and how we are today. I couldn’t recommend the tour enough. It will be great to see the project grow.
